I got an old, rusted 4×4 trailer. Renata flatly refused me getting it, insisting that she would never sleep in such an old thing. But I know her. I know she can’t look into the future. She can’t imagine that the trailer would look brand new after being repainted.
After seven services in the week of Pentecost I realised that I had to clean my head. And what better way to do it than getting out behind the screens and getting under, behind and around the trailer? I unscrewed each and every little screw. Took out every one of what felt like a thousand rivets. Until only the axle and wheels remained.
It took me three days.
I took the chassis to be galvanised. The rest was painted with primer and then spray-painted. And then the process of putting it together again started. My good friend from Gauteng wanted to know how many spare parts would be left over. My other pal from Aranos said it didn’t matter, just take the spare parts with…
It was indeed a wonderful project and now that it looks brand new, Renata says she will go camping with the trailer and even sleep in it…
Now I know exactly how the trailer works. I know where the difficult parts are and I also know what I have to do to get to them. I know where the spots are that other people can’t even see.
Why? Because I was there when it was taken apart and when it was put together again. Well, I don’t just have the T-shirt, I also have the cuts and bruises on my hands from doing the work. I even have two furrows to show where the grinder slipped.
As the saying goes: “I know the ins and outs of this one.”
God is like that with us. God knows all our ins and outs, because He made us. He knows where our veins run. He knows each micro centimetre of our brains. He knows how our brain waves work. He knows what a virus does and He also knows what can stop the virus.
God knows what our motives are and why we do or not do things. God planned us. He designed us. He wove us together. Piece by piece. He has a dream for each of us.
And that tells an amazing story about how big our God is! It’s awesome to get a small insight into how huge God really is: 13Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it-no matter what.
Just like I know everything about the trailer I restored, God also knows everything about us. And we should know that we cannot hide anything from Him. We can’t get away from it.
We shouldn’t be afraid because of that. It’s actually a motivation to live the way that the One who created us dreamt that we would live.

Reflection
Do you realise how big God really is?
Do you realise that He knows you inside out?
Does that scare you?
Prayer
Father God, You are immense. Why are You thinking about humans at all? But You do, because You made each of us. You dream about us. Please help us to dream with You and to live that dream. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Protecting America From Foreign Interference: 5 Keys
