The European Union plans to expand its borders. This is the name of the article on the news website “Financial Times”. It is reported that the EU intends to offer membership in the organization at once to 6 countries of the Balkan Peninsula in order to cope with the migration flow and other problems.
As noted, the European Union will send a proposal to Albania, as well as Serbia, Montenegro, Republic of Kosovo, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This solution lies to the fact that the Balkan countries let through the main of the migration flows that has led to the migration crisis.
In addition, the interests of other countries in this region are alarming the EU. This could include China, which signed an agreement on strategic partnership with Serbia, as well as investing in transport projects in Macedonia and in the high-speed railway Belgrade – Budapest.
It is not surprising that the European Union will try in every possible way to strengthen its influence in this region. The publication indicates that the deadline for the accession of these countries is 2025, however, this date is considered not as a real date, but as an incentive for motivation for an early accession.
The EU’s main priorities are clear, however, there are still some reasons, and they are not entirely beneficial for joining countries.
First of all, it is worth remembering that Germany in recent years has become famous for its migration policy. And it is possible that if these countries join the EU, Germany will try to accommodate refugees on their territory. A good move, beneficial to Germany, covering up with the ideas of the EU, to ease the migration pressure on its economy.
Secondly, it is necessary to take into account the economic factor of possible accession. The Balkan countries, in this list, are difficult to attribute to highly developed countries. For them, accession to the EU may not just be profitable, but destructive, relative to the economy. The transition to a single currency, the euro, the establishment of provincial norms all this can negatively affect the economic development of these countries.
Bulgaria being in uneasy situation. The country that has joined the EU, now has a huge number of problems, both economic and political. It’s impossible to say that the European Union helps Bulgaria. As a result, Bulgaria is forced to solve her problems herself. In addition, Bulgaria, as a country the predecessor of the European Commission, will be at the crossroads between Germany and its neighbors in the Balkans – Macedonia, Serbia, Albania. After all, the European Union itself has repeatedly stated that the Bulgarian chairmanship can help the integration of the Balkan countries into the EU. And it is possible that under the influence of Germany, Bulgaria will be forced to persuade its neighbors to conclude not advantageous agreements with the EU, which in future will only harm these countries. Thus, Bulgaria can greatly deteriorate its relations with her Balkanian neighbors.
